Free Stuff for Nonprofit WordPress Websites

There are lots of tech companies that recognize that money saved by a nonprofit goes back into its mission. This page lists useful website, tech, and WordPress nonprofit discounts. If you know of one that’s not listed here, please let me know!

The purpose of this page is to promote as many nonprofit discounts as possible to help organizations save money. Unlike most other recommendations on this site for hosting, plugins, and themes, some services on this page haven’t been as carefully vetted beyond confirmation of the discount.

Free Tech & WordPress for Nonprofits

The requirements for nonprofits to qualify for these discounts vary. Some may require US 501(c)(3) status, while others may be more flexible.

Free WordPress Plugins for Nonprofits

We don’t have experience with it, but ShortPixel Image Optimizer plugin offers its services free to nonprofits if you contact them.

Free WordPress Themes for Nonprofits

Organic Themes gives away one license for their NonProfit Theme once a month through their Helping Hands program.

Free Web Hosting for Nonprofits

Free nonprofit hosting isn’t always fantastic. Consider one of the Nonprofit WP recommended hosts costing as little as $4 per month for introductory pricing.

Dreamhost gives a free “shared” hosting account for nonprofits. Follow those instructions closely as the setup is a little strange. They also offer a 35% discount for their significantly better WordPress-specific hosting.

I do not have experience with either of the following services that offer free website hosting for nonprofits:

  • Interserver offers free hosting for nonprofit organizations.
  • Free For Charity offers free hosting for nonprofit organizations and includes some additional free WordPress themes/plugins and software with their hosting.

Other Free-for-Nonprofits Tech

Microsoft’s Office 365 and Google App’s Google for Nonprofits both provide email and online productivity software (document editing, calendaring, etc.) for free to qualified nonprofits.

Nonprofits can also qualify for free search advertising with Google Grants.

The popular chat service Slack offers free “workspaces” for 501(c)(3)’s with up to 250 users. For larger organizations, they offer major discounts.

Canva, a popular online tool for designing graphics, offers a free nonprofit subscription.

Discounted Tech & WordPress for Nonprofits

Not every company will give you their service or software for free, but there are others that do offer discounts!

Hosting Discounts

The DreamPress hosting from Dreamhost, specifically for WordPress, is significantly better than standard “shared” Dreamhost hosting (free for nonprofits) and gives a 35% discount to all nonprofits.

Kinsta, a WordPress-specific host, offers a 15% discount to nonprofits on all hosting plans.

WordPress Plugin Discounts for Nonprofits

Gravity Forms is a best-in-class form-builder plugin with a wide-array of useful add-ons for connecting PayPal, Stripe, MailChimp, and almost any other service via Zapier (see below for a Zapier discount!). Lucky for you, they offer a Gravity Forms nonprofit discount!

The well-regarded Event Espresso plugin also offers a discount for nonprofits on their first year.

The Polldaddy service for forms and polls offers 10% off Polldaddy subscriptions for nonprofits and education institutions.

The Swift Performance plugin that speeds up your site offers nonprofits a 90% discount.

TechSoup

In general, every discount-tech-for-nonprofits list must start with TechSoup which offers dozens of desktop software programs from Adobe, Microsoft, Cisco, and more as well as hardware (laptops, routers, projectors, etc.) at a discount for qualified nonprofits.

Other Nonprofit Tech Discounts

MailChimp is my email newsletter service of choice and they offer a 15% discount for nonprofits and also a combinable offer of a 10% discount for enabling the “two-factor authentication” security service.

Constant Contact (20-30%) and Vertical Response (15%) also offer discounts to qualified nonprofits.

Zapier, a useful service for automating web processes—such as connecting WordPress to Salesforce—offers a 15% discount for 501(c)(3)s.

The popular social media management tool Buffer offers a 50% discount for 501(c)(3)s.

Apparently ConvertKit offers a 20% discount for nonprofits, but there’s no clear way to apply. Ask before you sign up!
